Competitions 2020
Returning from a week chicken-sitting for a friend (Mary, Edith and Sybil and they lay lovely eggs!) I was delighted to find my story Painting Over The Pictures had been awarded second place in the Doris Gooderson competition run by Wrekin Writers.
I was also very pleased that a story had been longlisted for the Frome Festival (although it didn't make it onto the shortlist) but my story Bird of Passage has been shortlisted for the Wells Festival of Literature. Whether it will make its passage to the top 3 remains to be seen.
Such an odd year, 2020. Normally I would try to get to the awards occasion any competition I was shortlisted in, as I think the organisers do such a sterling job and it must be very disheartening if nobody bothers to turn up. However, this year is different. Most of the usual events are either cancelled or done virtually. I have to say that doing yoga on Zoom is a pain, as I keep losing connection, but I'll try to join the Wells event if I can. It may be a blessing in disguise, as I wouldn't be able to drive to Somerset anyway, having tripped over while running and broken my shoulder. Fingers crossed - on the good hand.
