My writing
"I enjoy writing historical fiction - or faction ..."
Since 1996, I’ve been a regular contributor to the fiction in magazines such as Women’s Weekly, The People’s Friend, My Weekly and Take a Break’s Fiction Feast.
I’ve been amongst the winners or long/short-listed in numerous competitions and my first book, Battle for Love, was published with Roane Publishing in 2017. That was pure fiction, a romance ending on the field of Waterloo.
The Saga of Kali Kolsson is different. It tells the tale of how Kali Kolsson became Earl Rognvald of Orkney in the 12th Century following murder, battle and trickery. It’s as well-researched as I can make it and based on the stories in Orkneyingasaga and Heimskringla. Whether these originals are strictly accurate or the Icelanders who wrote them indulged in a spot of poetic licence is a matter of conjecture. No matter, it makes for a great read.
I enjoy writing historical fiction – or faction might be the more accurate term as real lives are blended with fiction to tell their story - but not all my writing comes into this category.
I’ve had the pleasure of seeing some of my plays performed on the amateur stage and even once won a prize for poetry, which surprised me no end!
Not all is historical, either, ranging from humorous to dark, crime to romance, and pretty well most of the stops in between.
